United States: making 2009 safer
At Umicore Technical Materials North America (UTMNA), safety is a subject important enough to shut down both US facilities for the day on January 9th and bring all employees together at the Glens Falls, New York plant for a full day of departmental safety discussions. Two special guest speakers (one of whom recounted his experiences of being buried alive) presented key safety messages to kick off 2009 - a year in which the goal is 0 lost-time accidents and a 20% reduction in recordable accidents.
Having a day dedicated to safety and hearing a consistent message is a great way to start the year with everyone on the same page and working as a team.
