Belgium: Open House at Hoboken
On October 22nd and 23rd, Secretary of State Mrs. Els Van Weert organised a happening at which initiatives contributing to sustainable development were demonstrated to the public.
As sustainable development is an essential part of “The Umicore Way”, Umicore Precious Metals Refining (UPMR) seized this opportunity to open its doors to reveal how this idea is brought into practice in an industrial surrounding.
Over 1600 visitors could see from themselves how the Hoboken plant contributes to recycling, minimises its waste output and takes care of the environment. For the first time, the public could also visit the new “leaching and elektrowinning plant”, commissioned in 2003.
A survey completed by the visitors at the end of the visit, showed very positive impressions on the quality of the visit itself, the environmental care and the overall image of Umicore and UPMR.
