Introduction to "From Ag to Zn"

Non-ferrous metals

Using the Table of Mendeljev as a metaphor we present an online version of Umicore's publication "From Ag to Zn" (2002) by Claude Feneau (former R&D Manager - retired in 1993).

Table of Mendeljev

The purpose of the publication

The purpose of the publication was to briefly describe the metals in terms of their history, their physical and chemical properties, their occurence in nature, their metallurgy and/or production, the tonnages involved and their main applications. It goes without saying that the descriptions are far from being exhaustive and are aimed essentially at pointing out their major characteristics, with due regard to their economic importance.

About the photographs

The photographs used in the background are showing a close-up picture of the element in its refined form, be it metal, powder, salt or sponge. For safety reasons, 2 elements - thallium and osmium - were photographed in their protective packaging due to their hazardous nature.
