To add to our valuable team of dedicated employees, Umicore is currently seeking a Process Engineer in our Umicore Cobalt and Specialty Materials business unit, located at our Arab, AL facility.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Collaborate with the Operations Manager in running efficient, safe, and environmentally sound production processes
    • a. Generate specific production statistical/analytical data for USCA processes, conduct analysis on safety, quality, lead time, costs, and environment related aspects, and develop process improvements
    • b. Provide technical assistance to the production team when needed
    • c. Provide second line trouble-shooting on process issues and interact with the maintenance team to fix them in a timely manner
    • d. Update process documentation (flowsheet, P&ID, PHA/PRA, SCE/SCP, Work Instructions, Training, etc), per the site Management of Change procedure
    • e. Provide technical guidance to the lab team in setting up tests for process changes, per the site Management of Change procedure
  2. Responsible for product and process development
    • a. Support the Sales team with analytical and operational data pertaining to new processes / products
    • b. Conduct product development research, with the help of USCA Lab team and Umicore Group R&D
    • c. Set up pilot tests for qualification of process changes, with the help of the Global Process & Technology team
    • d. Start up new process systems
  3. Responsible for assigned Capital Expenditure Projects related to USCA processes
    • a. Assist the Plant Manager in establishing USCA annual CAPEX budget (define priorities and resources needed)
    • b. Manage assigned CAPEX projects from feasibility to implementation:
      • i. Prepare CAPEX request in Sharepoint
      • ii. Work with engineering companies on process and building design (material balance, process flowsheet, P&ID, equipment material and size, instrumentation and PLC type, pipe rack drawings, electrical drawings, building dimensions, etc)
      • iii. Ensure that the process and building design are compliant with US regulations (OSHA standards, ADEM permits, NFPA codes, etc)
      • iv. Establish the Process Hazard Assessment and actively participate in the Process Risk Assessment
      • v. Issue requests for quotations
      • vi. Select contractors and ensure they comply with the site requirements (safety, liability, etc)
      • vii. Issue purchase orders, and ensure good receipts / invoices are accurate
      • viii. Coordinate the work within timeframe, budget, and according to USCA quality, safety and environmental standards
      • ix. Establish all necessary documentation (SCE/SCP list, PM schedule, Spare part list, Work Instructions, Training, etc) regarding the new processes
      • x. Provide training to the Operations team (production, maintenance, lab) on the new processes to ensure a smooth transition of the completed projects
    • c. Manage monthly reporting on status of projects

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum Bachelor degree in Chemical Engineering
  • Minimum 3 years of post-graduate work experience
  • Capital Expenditure project management is a plus
  • Knowledge of OSHA, ADEM, NFPA regulations is a plus
  • Knowledge of Process Risk Assessment HAZOP method is a plus
  • Knowledge of instrumentation and PLC is a plus
  • Knowledge of CAD is a plus
