Technical facts about Umicore's website
During the rebuild of its website, Umicore will strive to adhere as much as possible to web standards, in order to make the information published accessible in the easiest way to the greatest number of web users. A long-term viability of documents published on the Web is hereby envisaged.
Source Code
Our goal is to be compliant with W3C standards recommendations. Therefor the layout for this site was written using XHTML Transitional and CSS 2. Except for third party code which we have no governance over, the code used will mostly validate the W3C recommendations.The use of Javascript has been rather limited and is only used where strictly necessary.The site is served with Java technology (JSP).
Accessibility
Although the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines from the W3C has not been reached fully with this site, we strive to fully meet these guidelines in the future. This implicates that the navigation, content and functionality of the site has to be useable in text only browsers, that font-size can be altered by the user and main navigation will display as plain text links when Javascript is turned off or CSS not supported.
Typography
The font-family Verdana, Helvitica, Arial, sans-serif is used throughout this site: Verdana clearly being used as preference.
