Cleaning the road in Auburn Hills
One way that America’s vast highway system is kept clean is through local adoption programmes. David Frownfelter, employee of Umicore Automotive Catalysts in Auburn Hills, Michigan, tells how his site has adopted a nearby stretch of University Drive.
“We clean the litter from our section of road just one mile from the Umicore Auburn Hills Tech Centre. We do it three times a year: spring, summer and fall.
We usually have a crew of fifteen to twenty people, and it takes us one or two hours to clean the road.
It’s a meaningful way we can help keep our world green. I’ve often wondered who the people are who clean up the roads. It turns out they are people like us. Our company name and logo are displayed on a sign at the side of the road. It lets our neighbours know we are part of the fabric of this community and are making a difference.”
