Social program in Brazil since 1995

Our Brazilian colleagues have a strong sense of social responsibility towards employees. Take the Life Quality Programme. It started in 1995 with the aim of motivating and committing employees through activities to promote health, education, leisure and family integration. Since then, initiatives have included promoting daily exercise, vaccination campaigns, gifts for parents with newborns, and children’s vacation trips.

Social responsibility also embraces the wider community. For example, 74,000 kg of recyclable litter was donated to a programme for adult training and literacy, and 6,300 kg of food went to a local needy community. For the Better Life Project, which aims at providing regular sport activities to needy children, Umicore has donated equipment and a playing court.

The life quality program also embraces the wider commmunity.

A clever idea combined business with social action. Customers were encouraged to participate in a satisfaction survey by explaining that for each survey received, a sum of money would be donated to a children’s hospital.
