Walking with a friend
Until a couple of years ago, Sarah Hartley was the Refining Coordinator at Umicore’s subsidiary Imperial Smelting and Refining in Markham, Ontario, Canada. Her husband Cameron Hartley continues to work there as the Sales Manager. Sarah was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in April 2008.
Imperial decided to join Team Hartley (a combination of family, friends, and colleagues of the Hartley family) on April 19, 2009 on the 5km MS Walk which is the largest fundraising event for the Multiple Sclerosis Society. The charity funds research into both finding a cure and helping those affected with MS enhance their quality of life.
Team Hartley was the largest team the Ontario Chapter of the MS Society has ever seen with almost 100 members. Sarah has always had the ability to take a negative situation and turn it into a positive - the walk was important to both her and Cameron and so it was important to the "Umicore Family". It turned out to be a beautiful day for a walk and the participants felt good to be part of something that means so much to so many people.
