Dodentocht®: 100 km 'walking for a better life'

On August 12th Umicore took part in the 100 km "Death March" of Bornem (Belgium) for the fourth time. With a record participation of 60 Umicore employees, we are rapidly approaching our objective of ´100 people for 100 km´!

No fewer than 35 colleagues reached the finish line within the time limit, covering the entire distance by foot in 24 hours! Of those that did not finish, fifteen walked more than 50 km. For each kilometre walked, Umicore is contributing € 1 to Handicap International.

Thanks to the 4,566 kilometres covered, Cambodian children crippled by landmines will once again get a chance to walk with a prosthetic leg.

A special word of thanks should be addressed to the Umicore Support Team (UST) which stood by throughout the night to fortify the bodies and spirits of the weary hikers.
