Food drive in Raleigh
Over the course of two months, Umicore Raleigh held a food drive amongst its employees. The gathered cans, jars, pots, and dried foods were donated to the food bank in Raleigh, US, which provides food to people at risk of hunger in central and eastern North Carolina.
Sadly, hunger remains a serious problem in this region. More than 400,000 people in the Food Bank's 34-county service area struggle each day. Thirty-eight percent of the families served are the “working poor” – people who work hard and still have to choose between eating and other basic necessities such as medicine and housing.
Almost every employee pitched in and brought some type of non-perishables to work. Umicore Raleigh supports this charity organisation every year and will continue to do so next year. It was very satisfying for our Raleigh colleagues to see the pile of food products grow every day and to know that they were helping less fortunate neighbours. A noble cause that bears repeating!
