Umicore USA employees respond to Katrina

Umicore USA appealed in 2005 to its employees to respond to the devastation left behind by hurricane Katrina.

Katrina caused catastrophic damage along the coastline of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and flooding most of the city of New Orleans. Over 70 countries offered assistance in various forms to help with what turned out to be the costliest natural disaster in US history.

A message was sent out by Umicore USAto all employees asking them to give donations which Umicore USA would match.

A total of $19,231.81 was raised between employees and Umicore and all donations were sent to  Human Resources in Raleigh. The funds went directly to a regional food bank where trucks were individually loaded to meet the needs of specific communities in the gulf region.

Progress could be tracked on a regular basis by visiting the food bank and the director of the Food Bank Center kept Umicore USA up to date by email when trucks were being loaded and where each truck was going to deliver food.
