Vilvoorde, Belgium: Contributing to a greener world
Our Building Products plant in Vilvoorde, Belgium, supports a remarkable campaign aimed at achieving a more sustainable future: “1,000,000 trees for Flanders”. The action fits well with its commitment to sustainability.
On 27 March 2011, all employees, their families and customers were invited to help plant no less than 2.5 ha of trees in Gooik, a village 35 km away from our plant in Vilvoorde. Over 200 people were eager roll up their sleeves and plant various kinds of tree such as oak, beech, maple, chestnut and cherry. Interestingly, the new stretch of woodland will not only make Gooik a greener village but will also serve as a children’s play area.
The Belgian campaign is part of the worldwide “Plant for the Planet: The Billion Tree Campaign”, co-ordinated by the United Nations Environment Programme. The campaign was launched in 2006 and aims to plant at least one billion trees worldwide each year.
