UTMNA donation to local school

Umicore Technical Materials in Glens Falls donated lab equipment perfectly suited for educational purposes to a local school.Umicore standards demand that all employees have a safe and clean workspace. To help achieve this at Umicore Technical Materials North America (UTMNA) in Glens Falls, New York, everybody was encouraged to get rid of everything that was broken, unsafe or not used anymore. This initiative was part of the integration process following Umicore’s acquisition of the Glens Falls site in January.

During the clean-up, a couple of boxes of lab equipment were found. No longer suitable for professional applications, the equipment was perfectly fine for educational purposes. UTMNA Lab Manager Zdenka Sonnenfeld knew through her daughter, Viktoria Abusen, that the local South Glens Falls High School was short of lab equipment for chemistry lessons.

The school was happy to receive the donation from UTMNA. Zdenka and Steve Allen, UTMNA Facility and Maintenance Manager, prepared the equipment and delivered it to the school. Judy Moffit, a chemistry teacher at the school, was excited about the equipment. She enjoyed a plant tour and was amazed how much technology and knowledge is behind contact and brazing materials.
