Fuel Cell and Stationary Catalysts

What you will be doing

The Mechanical Engineer designs, manages and engineers stationary catalyst projects. Acts as subject matter expert on mechanical fabrication for the execution and technical sales teams.

Acts as the mechanical lead for the multinational Stationary Emission Control Catalysis execution team. Part of a multidimensional technical team, creating and customizing designs of the stationary catalyst product catalogue.


Design and Engineering
Validates the designs of other team members, checking for mechanical soundness, ensuring product can be manufactured cost effectively and is properly engineered
Create module designs for client projects as needed, including non-standard reactor designs, replacement of competitor modules, working around installation challenges, in order to accommodate client specific parameters and requests in the SCR catalyst business
Maintain an open line of communication with the Plant so that all designs made are in line with current production methods and abilities
Provide engineering guidance to technical sales group and other Umicore catalyst offices on product limitations and capabilities ensuring design proposed is mechanically feasible
Research and develop mechanical calculations for new or improved modules and other equipment

Lead Quality Inspector
Responsible for inspecting, quality testing, and completing inspection reports for SCR modules and other mechanical equipment, ensuring the products built are in accordance to project drawings, quality procedures and Umicore standard specifications
Resolve any issues or non-conformances via design changes or product modifications as needed and report in a timely and accurate manner to organization and Project Manager
Responsible for communication with module fabricator, including quotations, questions, scheduling, quality requirements and delivery of service
Design, assist and provide mechanical expertise to fabricator in order to cost effectively build new element/module designs and special equipment
Research, review and stay up to date on manufacturing techniques and available equipment to further improve module assembly at Umicore and fabrication site

Project Management and Customer Service
Assist in managing all global projects for Stationary Catalysis
Create, maintain and submit Operation Manuals, project schedules, inspection test plans and other customer required documents
Planning and coordinating with the plant and fabrication vendor to provide delivery dates for orders
Handle and respond to any customer requests, technical inquiries, support customers and crews during module installation as required

Who we are looking for

Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering required
2 - 5 years in a mechanical engineering role
2+ years of AutoCad and/or AutoDesk Inventor experience

Ability to maintain relationships with colleagues and direct reports
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with staff and customers
Able to work with a diverse group from different backgrounds and different disciplines
Excellent conflict management skills

Language Skills
Strong oral and written communication skills

Mathematical Skills
Expertise in algebra, calculus, engineering physics

Reasoning Ability
Strong inter-personal and management skills (communicating, motivating, and developing team members)
Must be able to manage multiple deadlines with competing priorities
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Self-motivated individual who can work independently and make decisions
Work well under pressure
Very detailed oriented
Capacity to multi-task and troubleshoot at the highest level

Computer Skills
Expertise in and working knowledge of Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD and Vault
Excellent proficiency with the use of Excel, Word, Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint
Expertise in SAP

Must be willing to travel less than 25% for module inspection and site installations
