About Battery Recycling Solutions (BRS)

We extract critical and valuable materials from end-of-life batteries or production scrap as efficiently as possible and reintroduce them in the battery materials supply chain. What you will be doing

The strategic focus for BRS over the coming years is high and the Quality Systems & Compliance manager will therefore have to operate in a changing environment with changing processes/campaigns, incoming & outcoming products & waste!

As Quality Systems & Compliance Manager you will play a key role in getting the BRS organisation qualitatively ready to grow at the fast pace while ensuring and overlooking all processes' compliancy with ISO certification and legal obligations. Next to internal processes, you will also have the responsibility to audit external partners on a regular basis to ensure compliance with Umicore norms and values.

Detailed responsibilities:

  • Quality Management System
    • Implement quality thinking and a culture of excellence throughout the BRS organization in order to qualify for different management systems (ISO)
    • Conduct audits or reviews of business processes across BRS to look for areas of improvement and initiate and steer improvements programs
    • Responsible to perform due diligence audits at our partners on a regular basis to guarantee (EHS) compliance in line with Umicore values
    • Responsible to coordinate and lead customer audits
  • Implement and supervise legal compliance with the global transport & trade compliance legislation as well as the European Battery Directive Transport regulation (in close collaboration with Purchase&Transportation Department)
    • dangerous goods regulation (ADR, IMDG, ADN, IATA), waste shipment regulations (WSR of the EU, Basel convention regulation), load securing regulations (directive EN12195 and IMO-CTU).
    • Responsible to ensure compliance with regulations on transport documentation and custom regulations.
  • Become an authority in Battery Directive & Recycling Efficiency (in close contact with Government Affairs Department)
    • Translating business needs to Government Affairs colleagues as well as implementing all legal requirements to ensure compliance in terms of Recycling Efficiency reporting towards the Government.
    • Responsible for all treatment, recycling efficiency or other reports requested by customers.
    • Responsible to inform management about future risks or opportunities for the business in terms of European legislation.
  • Be the liaison person with external governmental authorities or industry associations

You will be located in Hoboken or Brussels.

Who we are looking for

  • You acquired a Master degree in a business, engineering or legal domain or similar by experience
  • Validated working experience (+5 years) in an industrial environment with experience in quality, audit and/or legislative compliance
  • Knowledge of QEHS management systems (ISO certification) is a plus.
  • Eager to work on Organisational Change
  • Experience in interacting with governmental affairs, government agencies and European associations is certainly a plus
  • You are a great teammate with strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • You are capable of managing several priorities under time restraint
  • You can interact well with all levels in the organization and build networks
  • You are able to show strong leadership through mentoring/motivating
  • You are a good problem solver and decision maker
  • You are fluent in English; proficiency in Dutch is also a must
