Umicore’s rechargeable battery materials (RBM) give people autonomy and connectivity. We are a pioneer in battery materials that give added range and performance to electric vehicles. Our materials also ensure longer battery life for portable electronics. To enable our customers to produce even better performing batteries we cannot stand still. We need to find new ways to do things, discover new solutions and develop new ideas.

What you will be doing

The RBM Digitalization Director is responsible for driving and continuously developing RBM’s digitalization roadmap in close collaboration with all RBM Centre of Excellences, operations, production sites, the RBM BIT team and the corporate digitalization team. Main areas of responsibilities: 


Owner of the global Operational digitalization roadmap:

  • Guide & coordinate teams of the different centers of excellence (production, maintenance, logistics, EHS, quality management, engineering, process technology) & production sites in their ideation phases for digitalization & help them define business requirements
  • Drive the OPS digitalization roadmap & ensure alignment with RBM roadmap
  • Break down strategic projects from the roadmap to be followed up by Digitalization’s Project Managers
  • Calculation of business cases per project with all required investments
  • Prioritize projects based on impact and resources required, as well as relevance to RBM OPS automation and operational excellence vision
  • Translate business needs into requirements and sketch solution jointly with BIT
  • Make high level resource planning, considering all other digitalization tracks running in other department by interacting with the right stakeholders 


Project management and facilitator of operational digitalization projects:

  • Set budget, objectives, milestones & deliverables
  • Monitor implementation phase of projects & regular check-ins on progress
  • Discuss current & potential future roadblocks, collaborate on solutions, and assist project teams in delivering on time & budget 
  • Report regularly to RBM & Umicore leadership on progress and prepare Digitalization chapters for the OE&D board
  • Familiarize operational teams with automation solutions for production & administrative processes to stimulate further improvements
  • Track new technologies & market trends to inspire RBM & Corporate Digital team for industry 4.0 digitalization
  • Boost/Streamline Engineering managers to integrate the latest digitalization developments into plans for future facilities


Who we are looking for

You are an ideal candidate for us as you have:

  • Master’s degree in engineering, IT, sciences, or equivalent with minimum 10 years of experience in these expert domains
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a leading role within a process oriented production environment
  • Good knowledge and understanding of operational processes, preferably in metals refining, pCAM or CAM production or similar environments is an advantage
  • Proven experience in defining and implementing large-scale digital transformation programs in manufacturing and delivery on time/scope/cost; motivated to drive change
  • Proven experience in leading an IT/digitalization team with sound knowledge of (agile) project management methodology
  • Knowledge of production relevant SAP modules (e.g., PP, EWM, PM) and a time historian (e.g., OsisoftPI) and working in a cloud environment (preferably Azure cloud)
  • Solid knowledge of industrial automation systems, e.g., prior successful projects on robotic automation using at least one of robots/cobots/AGVs/AGFs
  • Strong analytical skills – understanding of the interaction between business requirements, processes and the various technology components
  • Good people skills (EQ) – influencing, networking & strong communication skills
  • Experience working in a multicultural & multi-site environment
  • Stress resistance, resilience, and ability to meet tight deadlines
