About Rechargeable Battery Materials in Canada
Umicore is preparing to build a battery materials production plant in Loyalist Township, Ontario - the first of its kind in North America. The cutting-edge facility will be a critical part of Canada’s electric vehicle (EV) supply chain. Throughout the design, construction, and operation of the plant, Umicore will be seeking a variety of professionals who share our passion for innovation and sustainability.
What you will be doing
For this new site, we are looking for a Vertical Start Up Manager, reporting to the Senior Start up Manager. In this role you will be responsible for supporting and coordinating the setup and start-up of our new JV expansions to achieve a timely and successful start of operations.
Responsibilities
- Act as expansion setup manager for the site, with a project reporting line to the expansion program owner
- On-site coordination between the CAPEX project team, commissioning/qualification team and operational setup team
- Responsible for monitoring progress, detecting deviations with potential impact on overall timing, cost and scope of the site setup, defining actions to remediate deviations with all stakeholders and if necessary escalate to the expansion program owner
- Support standardization:
- Be the operational counterpart
- Review of the CAPEX project with the project team, follow up the translation of the findings into standards and future project designs where needed
- Support implementation of new operational and logistics concepts:
- Operational aspects of new IT systems setup
- Assist during commissioning and startup for new concepts
- Gather potential improvements and channel back to Sr expansion setup manager for potential standardization
- Evaluate the effectiveness of the improvements and provide regular feedback towards the sr expansion setup manager
Who we are looking for
- Bachelors or Master’s degree in engineering or other, with several years of experience in an operational role in an industrial environment
- Project management experience
- Good practical technical / technological background
- Good knowledge of variety of systems & tools applied in operational excellence and good experience in implementing operational excellence on the work floor
- Experience with change management
- Positive and determined approach to researching and analysing a variety of operational processes in view of optimization
- Ability to lead and motivate as well as maintain a high morale among the members of the organization
- Capable of managing several priorities under time restraint and meet deadlines
- Good knowledge of product and manufacturing processes
