Catalytic converters reduce harmful emissions and contain valuable platinum group metals (PGMs) like platinum, palladium and rhodium. At Umicore, we expertly extract these metals from end-of-life metal and ceramic catalysts, enabling them to be reused in new catalytic converters and closing the materials loop. Our advanced sampling and analytical techniques and rigorous quality control ensure precise assessments of PGM content, and our state-of-the-art facilities guarantee their recovery. Recycling spent catalytic converters not only prevents landfill waste but also reduces the demand for virgin PGMs. We prioritize sustainability and adhere to strict environmental standards, safely handling both metallic and ceramic catalysts, including diesel particulate filters.

We accept ceramic catalysts, including full catalytic converters, broken honeycomb, and milled ceramics under 1 mm, with a recommended minimum of 1500 kg or 1500 units. For metallic catalysts, we process full catalytic converters and washcoat with a minimum volume of 1000 kg or 350 converters. Heavy-duty spent catalysts can also be recycled, and we encourage you to contact us to discuss the specific requirements for those materials.
