Hoboken’s 17-metal solution
The rising demand for speciality and precious metals and their growing scarcity is one of the world’s most pressing problems. Add to this the need to process growing volumes of increasingly complex, metal-containing industrial residues and e-scrap.
Umicore is helping to meet this challenge by investing €100 million in expanding capacity by 40% at its refining and recycling plant in Hoboken, Belgium – the largest and most sophisticated of its kind. Thanks to our focus on complex materials we can recover 17 valuable metals in an environmentally sound way. Find out more in this short animation.

Metal-containing industrial residue and e-scrap is getting more and more complex. We recover 17 precious and specialty metals from a wide variety of materials from over 200 complex input streams from all around the globe.
Keeping it green
Hoboken will boost capacity and aims to maintain the plant’s outstanding environmental performance. Sustainability is a key part of the project.
