Umicore provides earnings guidance for full year 2018 at its shareholders’ meeting
In the context of the ordinary shareholders’ meeting, CEO Marc Grynberg reiterated his confidence that revenue and earnings would keep growing materially in 2018 on the back of strong demand across activities in Energy & Surface Technologies.
Considering actual performance in the first quarter and forecast demand for the remainder of the year, Umicore expects full year recurring EBIT to be in a range of € 510 million to € 550 million, assuming current market and macroeconomic conditions continue to prevail. While all three business groups are expected to contribute to this year’s revenue and profit growth, the vast majority of the growth should come from Energy & Surface Technologies.
Next to the fast ramp-up in sales of cathode materials used in rechargeable batteries for the transportation segment, Umicore continues to benefit from higher demand and prices in the cobalt and nickel related businesses. All strategic growth investments including the programme to ramp-up cathode materials production capacity are progressing well.

Étant donné les performances du premier trimestre et la demande prévue pour le reste de l'année, Umicore prévoit un EBIT récurrent de € 510 millions à € 550 millions, si les conditions actuelles du marché et macro-économiques restent constantes. Alors que les trois business groups devraient contribuer à la croissance des revenus et des bénéfices de cette année, la grande majorité de la croissance devrait provenir de Energy & Surface Technologies.
Outre la croissance rapide des ventes de matériaux pour cathodes utilisés pour les batteries rechargeables dans le segment du transport, Umicore continue de bénéficier d'une demande et de prix plus élevés dans les activités liées au cobalt et au nickel. Tous les investissements de croissance stratégique, dont le programme d’expansion continue de la capacité de production de matériaux cathodiques, progressent bien.
In het kader van de gewone algemene vergadering bevestigde CEO Marc Grynberg nogmaals zijn vertrouwen dat de inkomsten en winst in 2018 significant zouden groeien, dankzij een sterke vraag in alle activiteiten van Energy & Surface Technologies.
De gerealiseerde prestaties in het eerste kwartaal en verwachte vraag voor de rest van het jaar in aanmerking nemend, verwacht Umicore dat de recurrente EBIT voor het volledige jaar tussen € 510 miljoen en € 550 miljoen zal liggen, in de veronderstelling dat de huidige markt –en macroeconomische voorwaarden blijven gelden. Hoewel alle drie de business groups naar verwachting zullen bijdragen aan de inkomsten -en winstgroei dit jaar, zou het grootste deel van de groei gedreven worden door Energy & Surface Technologies.
Naast de snel toenemende verkopen van kathodematerialen gebruikt in herlaadbare batterijen voor het transportsegment, blijft Umicore profiteren van een grotere vraag en hogere prijzen in de kobalt -en nikkelgerelateerde activiteiten. Alle strategische groei-investeringen, inclusief het project om de productiecapaciteit van kathodematerialen op te drijven, vorderen goed.
