Umicore and Solvay sell SolviCore joint-venture to Toray
Umicore and Solvay today announced that they have sold their respective 50% stakes in joint venture SolviCore to Japanese chemical company Toray. Since its inception in 2006, SolviCore has built up a strong portfolio of clients for its membrane electrode assemblies used in fuel cells and proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolysis. SolviCore will benefit from Toray’s expertise in fuel cell materials and experience in mass production and will remain based in the Hanau-Wolfgang Industriepark near Frankfurt.
Both Solvay and Umicore will continue to be active in the fuel cell material market. Solvay will focus on its core competence in advanced materials that will enable key innovation in the fuel cell industry for mobility, stationary and other markets. Umicore will focus on its core competence in catalysis and continue to develop and commercialize electro-catalysts for the fuel cell industry.
Umicore et Solvay annoncent la cession de leurs parts respectives de 50% dans SolviCore au groupe de chimie japonais Toray.Depuis sa création en 2006, la co-entreprise SolviCore s’est constituée un solide portefeuille de clients pour sa technologie d’assemblage membrane-électrode utilisée dans les piles à combustible et les électrolyses à membrane. SolviCore bénéficiera de l’expertise de Toray dans les matériaux pour piles à combustible et de son expérience dans la production à grande échelle. Cette activité restera basée sur le site industriel de Hanau-Wolfgang près de Francfort en Allemagne.
Solvay et Umicore poursuivront, chacun de leur côté, leurs développements pour le marché des piles à combustible. Solvay continuera d’innover dans les matériaux avancés qui entrent dans la fabrication de piles à combustible embarquées et destinées au transport ou stationnaires, ainsi que d’autres applications. Fort de son expertise dans le domaine de la catalyse, Umicore continuera de développer et de commercialiser des électrocatalyseurs pour piles à combustible.

SolviCore heeft sinds haar ontstaan in 2006 een sterk klantenbestand opgebouwd voor haar membraanelektrode assemblages voor brandstofcellen en voor de elektrolyse van protonenuitwisselingsmembranen. Toray’s expertise in brandstofcelmaterialen en ervaring met massaproductie zal SolviCore ten goede komen. SolviCore blijft gevestigd in het Wolfgang Industriepark in Hanau, nabij Frankfurt.
Zowel Solvay als Umicore zullen actief blijven in de markt van brandstofcelmaterialen. Solvay zal zich toespitsen op haar expertise in geavanceerde materialen, die belangrijke innovaties kunnen bieden aan de brandstofcellenindustrie voor ondermeer de transport- en energie- opslagmarkten. Umicore zal zich concentreren op haar kerncompetenties in katalysatoren en zet de ontwikkeling en commercialisatie van elektrokatalysatoren voor de brandstofcelindustrie verder.
