What you will do

As a Project Engineer your main responsibility is to lead the team while supporting the Project Manager during the different engineering phases of the EPCm project. You will focus on the cooperation with internal and external stakeholders such as technical service providers and engineering companies from a mechanical equipment point of view in a metallurgy environment. Your other responsibilities will be:

 

 

  • Responsible for controlling the scope, budget, timing and quality of the technology packages appointed to you within the different projects, including the correct integration of these packages in the whole scope of the project:

 

    • In a matrix organization, functionally lead a team of internal discipline experts. Together with this internal team, coordinate, lead, steer and control the external engineering partners multi-discipline engineering efforts in the project towards an optimal technical solution for the technology packages under your  supervision.

 

    • Responsible for the technical evaluation and selection of engineering equipment proposals by technology providers during the different engineering phases of conceptual design down to successful installation and start-up. This includes coordination of necessary experimental tests of the technology providers either at their test installations or within Umicore.

 

    • Responsible for the development of all required engineering deliverables, including but not limited to flow charts, P&IDs, design calculations, equipment technical specifications, safety studies, operational simplification (robotisation, ergonomy, …) and maintainability.

 

  • During the building, commissioning and start-up phases, organise the required testing of the equipment, such as Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), cold commissioning and hot commissioning and manage the punch list. During construction phase, monitor and control the onsite work progress, quality and cost.

 

  • Generate the required information for the process hazard assessment studies and hazop studies and be involved in those safety studies.

 

  • Responsible for the development of technology related information for CapEx and OpEx calculations by delivering consumables and fluida calculations, operational handling and logistics, maintainability, spare part strategy. Follow up of the procurement of the different equipment packages.

  • Holds a Master’s degree in engineering, preferably mechanical, chemistry or applied sciences
  • Minimum 5, preferably 10 years of experience in equipment engineering and management
  • Good project management skills
  • Team leader able to manage in a matrix organisation
  • Good understanding of recycling processes and metallurgy technologies
  • Good understanding of legal norms and requirements
  • Good understanding of HSE requirements
  • Excellent communication and management skills with a hands-on mentality
