About Umicore Battery Materials in Canada
Umicore is preparing to build a battery materials production plant in Loyalist Township, Ontario, Canada (located 25km from Kingston, ON) - the first of its kind in North America. The $1.5 billion, cutting-edge facility will be a critical part of Canada’s electric vehicle (EV) supply chain. Throughout the design, construction, and operation of the plant, Umicore will be seeking a variety of professionals who share our passion for innovation and sustainability.

Being an Intern at Umicore
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated intern to join our team for a challenging and rewarding internship experience in a fast paced start-up environment. Join Umicore and embark on a journey to gain government affairs experience while contributing to the development of Umicore’s operations in Canada. This internship will provide you with invaluable skills and insights to jumpstart your career in government affairs and advocacy.
What you will be doing
Join us starting in the summer of 2024 for 12 to 16 months and be a valuable contributor to our team. Reporting to the Director of Government Affairs and Advocacy, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience by conducting stakeholder mapping, legislative monitoring, tracking government reports, undertaking research, and coordinating government engagements to support the development of our new greenfield facility.
Who we are looking for
Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in political science, public policy, public administration, law, communications, or related field
Interested in government affairs, politics, public policy, advocacy
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Team player, respectful, committed to values and people
Eagerness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment
Requires personal transportation to reach the Bath, Ontario office since public transit is not available at this time.
