About Umicore Battery Materials in Canada

Umicore is preparing to build a battery materials production plant in Loyalist Township, Ontario - the first of its kind in North America. The cutting-edge facility will be a critical part of Canada’s electric vehicle (EV) supply chain. Throughout the design, construction, and operation of the plant, Umicore will be seeking a variety of professionals who share our passion for innovation and sustainability.

What you will be doing

For this new site, we are looking for a Project Capex Buyer reporting to the Project Procurement Manager. In this role you will for the execution of the procurement processes related to Capex purchases, in accordance with Umicore standards. This role provides a focus on adherence to specifications, timely delivery of materials, creating cost savings, execution of critical metrics, and keeping excellent- working relationships with Suppliers and Stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Screen the market for improved sources of Capex purchases
• Prepare request for information / proposal / quotation documents (including functional specifications)
• Revise offers for commercial and technical details
• Prepare offer comparisons
• Responsible for handling purchase agreements, with attention to quality, price, terms, delivery, and services provided
• Cooperate with internal team members in the project stages of planning and execution
• Build and maintain a good relationship with new and existing suppliers
• Administration of purchases in SAP / SRM systems
• Following the purchase process from requisition to payment
• Responsible to provide regular follow-up and reporting
• Participate in Quality Management - internally (co-building the desired processes) and externally (co-operating in supplier quality system's development)

Who we are looking for

• BS in Business or Logistics, or equivalent education and experience
• Excellent knowledge of capital purchasing and procurement processes
• Minimum 3-5 years' experience in purchasing / procurement
• Capable user of PC MS office applications & SAP systems
• Demonstrated negotiation skills and understanding of contracts

• Analytical & conceptual thinking and decision making; strong project and risk-management skills
• Exemplary behavior towards ethics and integrity
• Strong communicator and interpersonal impact (influencing and persuading)
• Teamwork, collaboration & flexibility
• Outcome focused
