About Rechargeable Battery Materials in Canada

Umicore is preparing to build a battery materials production plant in Loyalist Township, Ontario - the first of its kind in North America. The cutting-edge facility will be a critical part of Canada’s electric vehicle (EV) supply chain. Throughout the design, construction, and operation of the plant, Umicore will be seeking a variety of professionals who share our passion for innovation and sustainability.

 

What you will be doing

For this new site, we are looking for a Project Engineer, reporting to the Project Manager. In this role you will be responsible for coordinating the design and construction of its area of responsibility & expertise and to liaise with project management, EPCm companies and contractors to successfully implement new assets and facilities.

 

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, revise and approve technical documentation for the design phases of projects, guaranteeing that standards, guidelines, best available, safe and cost-effective solutions are considered.
  • Ensure that project documents are complete and optimal for a competitive and fair tender process.
  • Support the procurement phase of specific components and works, screening from bids to good reception confirmation in support of the project management.
  • Control costs during execution of projects.
  • Supervise the construction, installation and commissioning of assigned projects, within your area of responsibility.
  • Work with other Engineering teams, integrating the work with other specialties into the final project solution, assuring user deadlines are met and without unexpected delays in production.
  • Execute all assigned tasks, planning and delivering on time, safely, efficiently, reliably and in a cost-effective manner.
  • Gather relevant data to inform the decision makers regarding complex issues
  • Propose improvements (procedures, organizational, new technologies, capex, productivity) as appropriate.
  • Capture user feedback and lessons learned for future projects.
  • Collaborates in internal and external audits.
  • Manage vendors & contractors onsite, analyze the potential risk and recommend actions to mitigate the problems from construction (EHS, manpower, logistics …).
  • Perform or support commissioning of the equipment before handing over to the Process team, support process team during the internal qualification

 

Who we are looking for

  • University degree, or equivalent qualification, in Engineering, preferably in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Instrumentation/Automation
  • Technical experience and/or background in the execution of engineering projects (of specialties above mentioned)
  • Relevant experience and understanding in the execution of industrial projects in operational environments
  • Knowledge of design software (e.g. AutoCad)
  • Knowledge of EHS standards, industry good practices and legal requirements applicable to the specialty of focus
  • Computer literate with good working knowledge of the MS Office package
  • Must have the Knowledge, Experience and Skills to conduct their tasks in accordance with the rules and procedures set down.
  • Experience of multi-disciplinary engineering activities and its workflow.
  • Previous exposure to similar operations (asset)
