About Umicore Battery Materials in Canada

Umicore is preparing to build a battery materials production plant in Loyalist Township, Ontario - the first of its kind in North America. The cutting-edge facility will be a critical part of Canada’s electric vehicle (EV) supply chain. Throughout the design, construction, and operation of the plant, Umicore will be seeking a variety of professionals who share our passion for innovation and sustainability.

 

What you will be doing

For this new site, we are looking for a Project Procurement Manager, reporting to the Capex Country  Manager. In this role you will be responsible for your assigned procurement aspects of the project. The PPM ensures the project strategy is approved at the various stage gates and ensures execution of the project strategy to meet project objectives (HSE, Schedule, Quality, Cost) as compliance with the Procurement processes, tools and procedures. The PPM ensures mobilization of procurement and contract management resources, relying on internal (category leads, CAPEX buyers) and external resources (EPCm).

 

Responsibilities

  • Set the project strategy at all stages of the project, based on the full procurement list of the project (tender packages, bidders list, schedule, budget, roles and responsibilities)
  • Interact with the Project Managers and obtain consensus on the project procurement strategy
  • Manages bridge funds
  • Ensure correct implementation of tools, processes and standards throughout the project
  • Oversee the EPCm procurement and contracting staff, and ensure adequate mobilization
  • Resolve expediting and claim issues, pro-actively handle risk
  • Deliver on schedule and cost objectives of the project, regularly report status on project variance and schedule risks.
  • Control the need-to-pay process and resolve any issues
  • Have a clear overview of the project cash flow situation and requirements
  • Document all contract award decisions as per corporate guidelines, based on a transparent risk assessment related to HSE, Schedule, Quality, Contract and Commercial aspects.
  • Work towards a strong commercial process, as well pro-actively in the project procurement strategy, as during TBE (multiple qualified bids) and final negotiations.
  • Oversee vendors & contractors onsite, analyze the potential risk and recommend actions to mitigate the problems from construction (EHS, personnel, logistics …)

 

Who we are looking for

  • University degree, in Engineering, Economics or equivalent education and experience
  • At least 3 years of experience in CAPEX procurement
  • Strong contracting skills
  • Computer literate with good solid understanding of the MS Office package
  • Experience managing an international, multi-disciplinary team
  • Highly organized, outcome focused, and strong problem solving skills
  • Strong team player and collaborator
  • Able to work autonomously in sometimes ambiguous situations
  • Experience working in matrix organizations, reporting to multiple stakeholders
  • Strong communication both written and verbal
