Our battery materials Gigafactory in Nysa receives ISO 14001 certification

Stories

With the joint efforts of our colleagues and a dedicated ISO (International Standardization Organization) team, our battery materials Gigafactory in Nysa, Poland, successfully passed the DNV audit and is now ISO 14001 certified.

ISO 14001 is the leading international standard setting out criteria for an environmental management system (EMS) and the most widely used EMS worldwide. Regardless of an organization’s activity or sector, the system ensures that its environmental impact is being measured and more importantly improved in a sustainable and continuous way.

Building an entire environmental management system from scratch in a newly built plant was a company-wide effort. Our skilled and experienced colleagues across different departments as well as their constructive teamwork were instrumental. Setting a structured and systematic approach to document every environmental element from the construction of the plant facilitated the planning, execution, monitoring and follow-up of tasks. These key success factor eased implementation of our environmental management system because measuring is knowing, and knowing enables us to continuously implement corrective measures.

Being certified with ISO 14001 reflects the Umicore way and our position to be a sustainability champion following the Group’s ‘Let’s Go For Zero’ strategy. We are determined to create positive impact and value towards all our stakeholders, including our suppliers, customers and neighbors. It is a win-win to see that our responsible behavior and commercial success go hand in hand. We are committed towards zero harm, and we go for zero.
