Umicore and Voxdale are proud to announce a partnership with Mahindra Racing in the Formula E Championship
The three-year technology-based partnership is a landmark for the FIA Formula E Championship. Through this partnership, Umicore and Mahindra Racing show that top electric car racing performance can be achieved using alternative energy sources, smart energy recuperation and using recycled materials for battery storage. The Electric Street Racing Series brings revolutionary electric driving in a safe, sustainable and eco-friendly way to the general public. This approach is demonstrating the Race-to-Road story that FIA is promoting through the Formula E Series.
Umicore and Mahindra Racing have agreed to undertake a technology development programme to enhance the performance of the 12V battery which enables all of the mission critical systems to be run on the Formula E cars. The results of this work will first be seen in the season five car, where drivers will nog longer need to make a mandatory car swap during the race.
Mahindra Racing also welcomes Belgian innovation company Voxdale as an official design & technology supplier. Voxdale and Mahindra Racing engineers will work together to apply Voxdale’s areas of expertise such as Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and simulation techniques to further tune the performance of the electric race cars.
The team is also happy to announce Belgian racing driver Sam Dejonghe as a simulator and development driver of the team. The young and talented Belgian racing driver will work closely with the team’s engineers to test new settings on a race simulator and the test car.

The FIA Formula E Championship is the electric street racing series and the world’s first fully-electric international single-seater category in motorsport. Le partenariat technologique d’une durée de trois ans est une étape importante pour le championnat FIA de Formule E. Grâce à ce partenariat, Umicore et Mahindra Racing démontrent que des performances de très haut niveau peuvent être atteintes par des voitures de course électriques en utilisant des sources d’énergie alternatives, une récupération intelligente de l’énergie et l’utilisation de matériaux recyclés pour les batteries. Les courses urbaines de voiture électriques permettent de montrer au public les technologies révolutionnaires d’une manière sûre, durable et respectueuse de l’environnement. Cette approche soutient le but de passer de la course à la route que la FIA s’est fixé via la Formule E. Mahindra Racing est actuellement la seule équipe qui dispose de l’Accréditation de Durabilité de la FIA.
Umicore et Mahindra Racing ont conclu un accord de développement technologique visant à améliorer les performances de la batterie 12V qui permet de faire fonctionner l’ensemble des systèmes clés des voitures de Formule E. Les résultats de cette collaboration seront visibles sur la voiture qui participera à la cinquième saison, où les pilotes ne devront plus obligatoirement changer de voiture au cours de la course.
Mahindra Racing accueille également la société belge d’innovation Voxdale comme fournisseur officiel de design et technologie. Les ingénieurs de Voxdale et Mahindra Racing collaboreront sur les domaines d’expertise de Voxdale tels que l’analyse par éléments finis (AEF) et l’analyse numérique de la dynamique des fluides et des simulations techniques afin d’encore améliorer les performances des voitures de course électriques.
L’équipe est aussi particulièrement heureuse d’accueillir le pilote automobile belge Sam Dejonghe en tant que pilote d’essai (simulation et de développement). Le championnat FIA de Formule E se compose d’une série de courses urbaines électriques et est la première catégorie internationale de monoplace toute électrique en sport automobile. La formule E amène la course électrique au centre des plus grandes villes du monde, avec comme décor les plus beaux panoramas urbains – dont New York, Hong Kong, Paris et Rome. La saison inaugurale de Formule E a débuté en septembre 2014 autour du Parc Olympique de Pékin. Deze technologische samenwerking voor een periode van drie jaar is een mijlpaal voor het Formula E kampioenschap. Met dit samenwerkingsverband tonen Umicore en Mahindra aan dat er topprestaties in de elektrische raceklasse kunnen behaald worden met alternatieve energiebronnen, slimme energieherwinning en gerecycleerde materialen voor batterijopslag. De elektrische straatrace autosportklasse laat het algemene publiek kennismaken met revolutionair rijden op een veilige, duurzame en milieuvriendelijke manier. Deze aanpak illustreert het Race-to-Road (van het racecircuit naar de weg) verhaal dat FIA promoot met de Formula E Series.
Umicore en Mahindra Racing zullen samen een technologisch programma opstarten om de prestaties van de 12 Volt batterij te verbeteren. Deze batterij stuurt de meest kritische systemen van de Formula E wagens aan. De resultaten van het programma zullen voor het eerst te zien in de wagen van het vijfde seizoen, waarbij de racepiloten geen verplichte wagenwissel meer moeten doen.
Mahindra Racing verwelkomt ook het Belgische innovatiebedrijf Voxdale als officiële ontwerp- en technologieleverancier. De ingenieurs van Voxdale en Mahindra Racing zullen samenwerken om de expertise van Voxdale toe te passen. Het gaat hier om de eindige-elementenmethode (EEM), numerieke stromingsleer en simulatietechnieken om de prestaties van elektrische racewagens verder te verfijnen.
Het is team is ook verheugd met de Belgische piloot Sam Dejonghe als nieuwe simulator en ontwikkelingspiloot van het team. De jonge, getalenteerde piloot zal nauw samenwerken met de ingenieurs van het team om nieuwe instellingen te testen in een racesimulator en in de testwagen.

Over FIA Formula E kampioenschap
Het FIA Formula E Championship is de serie van elektrische straatraces en is 's werelds eerste volledig elektrische, internationale single-seater categorie in de motorsport. Formula E brengt sensationele actie in enkele van 's werelds toonaangevende steden door te racen tegen de achtergrond van iconische skylines zoals New York, Hong Kong, Parijs en Rome. Het inaugureseizoen van de Formule E is in september 2014 van start gegaan op het terrein van het Olympisch Park in Beijing. Tijdens de vierde editie van het FIA Formula E Championship zullen 10 teams en 20 piloten strijden in 11 steden verspreid over vijf continenten in de strijd om te worden gekroond tot Formule E-kampioen.
