Umicore optimizes catalyst production footprint for heavy-duty diesel applications and intends to close plant in Denmark

As part of the ongoing reassessment of its global production footprint, Umicore intends to discontinue production of catalysts for heavy-duty diesel (HDD) applications in Frederikssund, Denmark and transfer the production of Frederikssund to the plant in Tianjin, China. The transfer of activities and closing of the Frederikssund plant would be finalized by the end of 2021 and would impact 55 positions in Frederikssund.

The production plants in Frederikssund and Tianjin have been part of Umicore’s production footprint since December 2017, when Umicore acquired the HDD and stationary catalyst activities of Haldor Topsoe. By consolidating production, Umicore will increase scale-effects while it continues to invest in the most advanced HDD-catalyst technologies. The state-of-the-art Tianjin plant offers distinct advantages with regards to its ability and flexibility to cater for future growth.

The above mentioned footprint adjustments are expected to lead to approximately € 10 million one-off adjustments to EBIT, a large part of which is non-cash in nature.

Umicore will continue to serve its HDD-customers from its catalyst production plants across the globe and  invest in the most advanced HDD-catalyst technologies to ensure its customers can remain in compliance with increasingly stringent emission norms around the world.
