Umicore in Kokkola, located on Finland’s West Coast, stands as the largest cobalt refining plant outside of China and a significant European precursor facility. The cathode precursors produced at this plant are transformed into active cathode materials at other Umicore production sites, serving as essential components for rechargeable Li-ion batteries.
