Using advanced technologies, we recover critical and precious metals from end-of-life consumer products like smartphones, laptops, catalytic converters, and rechargeable batteries. By giving these materials a new life again and again, Hoboken is a key driver of the circular economy.

Established in 1991, Umicore Americana serves the automotive internal combustion engines with its emission control catalysts, including technologies for gasoline and diesel passenger vehicles as well as for heavy-duty & non-Road applications. The complex includes a unique and complete Tech Center for Automotive Catalyst development and prototype development center. In 2021 the site was expanded with the transfer of activities from Guarulhos and now additionally manufactures and supplies high-tech products for the chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, electronics and jewelry markets, among others, as well as operating in metal recycling as part of the ‘closed loop’ business model.

Umicore Brasil Ltda., headquartered in Guarulhos, São Paulo, has been operating in Brazil for over 50 years. After the transfer of industrial activities to Americana in 2021, the site now serves as a corporate office for the region.

Umicore Shanghai includes 3 offices: RHQ, UMS & Battery Materials. Umicore's Greater China headquarters (RHQ) serves as a platform for the Group to implement mergers and acquisitions in Greater China as well as providing professional strategic guidance. Umicore Market Solutions China (UMS) provides the Group with services in market development, recovery of rare precious metals, sales of products and sourcing of raw materials, as well as localized support in various areas such as international business, capital operations, metal and foreign currency hedging and logistics services. Battery Cathode Materials in Shanghai is mainly engaged in battery materials and other related trading business.

Umicore’s largest site in Germany is located in the Hanau-Wolfgang Industrial Park and employs over 900 people focused on R&D for precious and specialty metal products. As one of Umicore’s main research hubs for clean technologies, it brings together extensive expertise for customers in the automotive, pharmaceutical, chemical, glass, and fertilizer industries.

Due to the diversity of Umicore portfolio, we are present across most key growth sectors today.

The offices are located in Minato-ku, the most central business district of Tokyo. It handles the import and export of various Umicore products and provides sales and customer services in close cooperation with Umicore's global manufacturing sites. It also houses Umicore Shokubai, joint venture in automotive catalysts, providing sales and customer service through close cooperation with relevant parties.

Seoul serves as the hub of Umicore’s multi-business unit commercial operations in Korea, offering a broad portfolio through a unified platform while maintaining close collaboration with each business unit. It plays a vital role in strengthening customer relationships and delivering valuable market insights.

Umicore Taiwan was established in 1998 to carry out market development, product sales and raw material procurement for Umicore Group in Taiwan. The products it handles include optoelectronic materials, precious metal catalysts, zinc chemicals, cobalt and specialty metals, electroplating raw materials, inorganic chemicals, precious metal compounds, catalysts and spent catalysts for recycling, as well as waste batteries, electronic scrap and lithium battery materials.

Umicore Shokubai in Rayong, joint venture with Nippon Shokubai, is one of the many sites focusing on producing automotive catalysts to reduce vehicle emissions.

Umicore Africa (Pty) Ltd is the regional extension of the Umicore Group which supports corporate functions and business units, with commercial matters, sales and marketing activities, business development and growth initiatives.

The North American Enterprise Functions located in Raleigh, NC include key functions such as Communications; Trade Compliance; Environment, Health & Safety; Government Affairs; Information Services; Insurance; Legal; People & Organization; Finance, and Taxes. All Raleigh functions are coached by the President of Umicore USA.
