Why STEM Matters
Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) are at the heart of solving the world’s most pressing challenges be it climate change, digital transformation, or the shift to a circular economy. These fields demand creative, technical, and scientific mind. This goes beyond engineers, and includes operators, technicians, IT specialists, lab analysts, and researchers. STEM education opens doors to a wide variety of careers, many of which are in high demand across industries. At Umicore, we see STEM not only as a pathway to innovation, but as a foundation for building a more sustainable future.

From Inspiration to Action
Through a close collaboration with organizations in the different communities where we operate, we inspire kids and youngsters that science is cool, fun, and part of everyday life. With experiments and challenges, we help kids aged 10–14 explore science and technology in engaging ways.
With Initiatives like site visits we help young people discover and have a glimpse into real STEM careers. In video interviews, child reporters speak with professionals who use their STEM education to make a difference like Umicore colleagues who recycle germanium for use in electronics.
We bring STEM to life through hands-on experiences like mentoring or immersive experiences and playful experiments. We also co-create educational programs with schools in different regions in the communities where we operate which often blend biology, chemistry, and physics with applied research and themes like sustainability and recycling.
Giving back to People and PlanetÂ
Umicore is dedicated to enhancing the well-being of the communities where we operate. We support initiatives for community improvement and environmental care, providing financial aid, in-kind resources and our team's expertise. Our contributions go beyond charity, focusing on lasting change through education, healthcare and social well-being. We are creating opportunities for people to thrive. One of our main topics when it comes to donations is supporting and funding education initiatives that empower all children to have access and learn skills that will support them in the future.
