In the transition toward sustainable mobility, Umicore is actively participating in the development of Vehicle Integrated Photovoltaics (VIPV). We are supplying next generation, cost-effective germanium substrates with very efficient germanium usage and low environmental footprint. The high-efficiency flexible and lightweight multi-junction solar panels built on this new generation platform can be seamlessly integrated into the design of future electric vehicle exteriors. VIPV allows vehicles in sunny areas to capture solar energy providing a daily range twice the distance of the average commute. This reduces the dependence on external charge and enhancing energy efficiency, providing the greener transportation solutions the world needs.
